How to Deal with Co-workers Talking Behind your Back |
1) The first thing to do is to tell your boss or superior about it. Coming clean is important in situations like this, and if your boss perceives that you are being both discreet and transparent, they'll be more likely to trust you and recognise your complaint as a genuine problem.
2) Tell your closest friends in office that there is a concern. Don't pre-empt the gossipy co-worker by telling friends in advance not to believe this or that in particular - just tell them you've been worried about a co-worker talking behind your back and would want them to come clean with you if they hear anything.
3) Try to prevent the colleague from getting an audience. If she/he finds that there are no takers for his/her gossip, they will be unlikely to continue with it. Most people gossip for the attention it gives them, and when the babbler gets none, the gossiping will automatically stop.
